CHI, THE SPA

The flagship spa for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, designed around the architecture and atmosphere of a Tibetan temple.

The design creates a sequence of intimate spaces within a generous 1,000-square-metre footprint, with treatment suites incorporating private changing, shower and toilet facilities, as well as dedicated areas for heat therapy, bathing and relaxation.

Tibetan architectural references are interpreted through the planning, proportions and detailing of the interiors, while natural materials, colour and filtered light create a sense of warmth and depth. Dappled light, incense and the sound of Tibetan singing bowls further contribute to the experience, creating a transition from the energy of the hotel into a more secluded and contemplative environment.

The result is a spa that combines the functional requirements of a large-scale luxury wellness facility with a strong architectural identity rooted in its inspiration.
